Acer's new slide tablet PC will adopt a 10-inch touch screen, ARM-based processor and will be manufactured by Compal Electronics, laptop battery which declined to comment about its clients, noted the sources, adding that estimated shipments for the device are still not available as Acer is currently still in the middle of clearing its notebook inventory and is taking a conservative attitude toward its orders.
Monday Acer America announced that its new Acer AC7000 is the first Chromebook to hit North American retail shelves. The Wi-Fi Acer UM09B31 Battery version will supposedly be available this month, followed by a 3G model sometime later this summer. The current model costs a mere $349.99, cheaper than many Android-based tablets already saturating the market.
(for the Espresso Black unit) or $269.99 (Aquamarine and Burgundy Red), Acer's mobile device features a 10.1-inch (1024 x 600) LED-backlit display, an 1.66 GHz Atom N570 dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, GMA 3150 integrated graphics, a 2-in-1 card reader, a 0.3 megapixel Crystal Eye webcam, 10/100 LAN, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, and a 3-cell battery enabling up to 4 hours of operation.
Acer reportedly plans to launch a slide tablet PC in the fourth quarter of 2011, targeting the year-end holiday season, according to Acer UM09B34 Battery sources from the upstream supply chain.Acer has recently reduced its 2011 tablet PC shipment forecast from 5-7 million units to only 2.5-3 million units, and with more Android-based tablet PCs to start appearing in the second half of 2011, most of non-Apple tablet PC vendors' estimated shipments are overoptimistic, the sources added.

With Lanci out, Acer undertook restructuring aimed at regaining traction in the mobile device market. They created a new division, known as the Touch Tablet group, with the goal of dedicating resources to tablets and smartphones. The group is led by Acer president Jim Wong, underscoring the importance of this new division within the company.
